We’re back with the fifth instalment of our Bartender’s Favourite cocktail feature! June 9th is internationally recognised as Dark 'n Stormy Day which celebrates the delicious cocktail. This tropical drink was invented in 1806 by a member of the Gosling family (of the Black Seal Rum fame). He sailed from England bound for the state of Virginia but, because of the hazardous weather conditions, they had to dock in Bermuda. While waiting there, he took advantage of his background in spirits to think of a recipe using his family’s black rum. British naval officers were brewing ginger beer to combat sea sickness at the time, so he combined the two drinks and named it the Dark N’ Stormy. The drink soon became popular with the naval officers stationed in the Caribbean and has since gained traction all over the world.

Here’s how to make it!

Ingredients:

50ml Goslings Black Seal

25ml Mixer Pure Lime Juice

2 dashes of Angostura bitters

5ml Monin Sugar Cane Syrup

100ml chilled Fever Tree Ginger Beer

Lime Wedge to serve
